Rashad Charjuan Owens Arrested for Deadly SXSW Hit-and-Run


Austin police have identified the man they say killed two people and injured 23 others during Thursday morning’s hit-and-run at South by Southwest.

Rashad Charjuan Owens, 21, of Killeen, Texas, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of capital murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle. Formal charges are still pending, Austin Police Department said in a statement.


SXSW in concept and in its early years was all about music. Passionate bands and music fans convened to share new sounds, styles, and put their collective heads together. Sadly over the years it’s become more of a Spring Break With Music than a collaboration of passions. There are still those there for the music but those there for the party are quickly becoming the majority.
